4.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating Documentary, April 23, 1999
By A Customer
My family had expected to see an hour of spectacular flying scenes, but in addition we were pleasantly surprised to be treated to an in-depth documentary on the institution of the Thunderbirds. The latter includes a study of the extraordinary team spirit and dedication of the members, the history of the team, training, behind-the-scenes activities, the making of an airshow, etc. It's a great opportunity for the Thunderbirds to be exciting role models for children (even 40-ish children like me): at the air show, they're just "faceless" pilots, almost superhuman. In this video, they are very human and you get a taste of their life.

The film is about 1/2 documentary and 1/2 flying sequences. It's not just a testosterone festival. The documentary was a little slow for our 4 year old, and our 6 and 7-1/2 year olds absorbed most of it. Candace Bergen makes a few appearances and appears to be distinctly uncomfortable or of out of her element, but she stays out of the way enough to let the Thunderbirds remain the stars of the show.

Ready, Now, Enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth watching after all, March 18, 2007
By John A. Mulgrew (San Leandro, CA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I really enjoyed the Blue Angels Around The World at The Speed of Sound. I have never seen the Thunderbirds, but decided that it might be worth getting. I was disappointed at first. Much of what they do is a carbon copy of the Blues movie. I realized, however, that the Blues were exemplary and therefore why reivent the wheel. After that realization I enjoyed it more. Whether the Blues or Thunderbirds, what these guys do is admirable and many of them are good role models.
