One of the biggest stars of country music at the end of the 20th century, Reba McEntire is the subject of this edition of A&E's
Biography series. Focusing less on her music , the show looks at McEntire's persistence, professionalism, and the inner strength that continues to propel her career.
Viewers are treated to interviews with McEntire's family and music industry friends, including Vince Gill and Dolly Parton (the latter, we find out, was a large influence on--and continues to be a fan of--the red-haired superstar), as well as some very poignant sessions with Reba herself. Through older photos and television clips, the audience learns how Reba got her start while performing with her siblings and also of the horrendous plane crash in 1991 that killed half of McEntire's touring band and made the singer seriously think about giving it all up.
Her triumph over that tragedy and her continued success in the industry are also highlights in this 50-minute program, which allows us a small glimpse behind the scenes in the life of a country diva. --Zachary Lively
