Excellent Blues Slide Starting Book, November 19, 2004
I completely disagree with the previous reviewer. Keith Wyatt, apart from being an outstanding guitar player, is an excellent blues guitar player too. When it comes to slide, he shows that he's brilliant in that too. This book is intended for those, who have an experience of playing blues guitar and want to get into slide. This book covers the subject very well (it's mostly BLUES slide book, but hey, it's what the slide is mostly good for), Keith shows you how to begin playing with slide (at first in standard tuning by the way), shows techniques and then he gets down to some pretty standard blues slide licks. I found this book to be very useful and don't consider that "Fretboard Roadmaps - Slide Guitar" is better simply, because like I said Keith is way better player, the feel, the tone, the licks, everything is better then in other book (I own both of them by the way). So if you are experienced in blues guitar and want to play blues slide, get this book, forget about Fretboard Roadmaps, which is kinda "slide in every style" book, with more open tunings explained frankly speaking, but with poor licks, poor sounding CD, and songs and licks repeated in several keys - gee, if you know how to play in any key, you'll be able to play same stuff almost in every key. The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars, it's because it could be just a little bit more detailed with more exercises and licks. And those of you, who complain that no scales are given in this book, first learn how to play guitar generally and then get into slide.

Huh?, December 11, 2005
To me, this book does not take a good approach to teaching slide. Im a guitar player wanting to play slide and I grabbed this book/cd off the rack. It doesnt really seem like this book is trying to start you from the ground up by teaching easy techniques then putting them together. It just kind of gives you some tab for an exercise, a track on the CD, the teacher talks while playing some neat sounding stuff, but never tells you HOW to do it. Sure, the tab is there, but give me some more guidance dude. Not much technique is ever given aside from the absolute basics. From there the book jumps to harder licks without giving enough guidance.
Two Thumbs Down on this one.

You can't go wrong with Keith Wyatt trust me..., March 25, 2005
I also disagree with the first reviewer. Blues is not about learning scales and modes. It's about listening, which is about what most of us (who pick up an instrument) do for the very first time or any time as a matter of fact. I happened to study under Keith Wyatt for a year at Musician's Institute in Hollywood California and let me tell you, in my whole life I have never seen a more fluent guitar player and musician. Words cannot explain how awsome this guy is in playing the blues. Trust me, if your curious about slide guitar, Keith Wyatt is the best place to start. Not only is he cool musician and blues player but he also a great teacher... I should know and you will too. Peace Out! Daniel
