I bought this book for my wife who is now pregnant. She (and her also pregnant sister) look something up in here about every other day. It has eased a lot of fears and helped us avoid some risks. As another reviewer mentioned, it could use more information on foods.

Very clear advice regarding the safety of a variety of medications, supplements, and occupational hazards during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The only thing that would have made it better would be a more comprehensive section on foods - there's a lot of misinformation about foods you supposedly can't eat while pregnant or breastfeeding.

I found this book from the Motherisk program to be very helpful. Motherisk is Canada's leading teratogen research and counseling program. (A teratogen is any medication, chemical, infectious disease, or environmental agent that might interfere with the normal development of a fetus and result in the loss of a pregnancy , a birth defect , or a pregnancy complication.) Advise from doctors vary and having such a worldwide respected source to go to in order to help me make decisions regarding what I should avoid during pregnancy is comforting. The book even contains the web adresses and phone numbers of the Motherisk and other national couseling programs that you can contact if you have any questions. These organizations specialize in teratogens and have the most up to date information. They can discuss with you the specific risks of your concern. This resource is indispensable. Any women pregnant or trying to become pregnant should have this book.
