Product Description

A placard carried in the San Diego Gay Parade said it all: "He's your God. They're your rules. You go to Hell." Clearly, there is no longer any commonly held ultimate authority. So merely quoting Bible verses at gays and other "sexual sinners" to prove they are immoral is equally unsuccessful, if not destructive.

For the sake of our young people, for the sake of our churches, for the sake of society and our world, Christians must understand the connection of spirituality and sexuality if we are to communicate relevantly to our postmodern culture. Jones gives an honest appraisal of contemporary sexual trends and puts them up against God's clear (and beautiful) design for sex as a spiritual expression.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strongly recommended, December 8, 2006
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
"The God Of Sex: How Spirituality Defines Your Sexuality" by Christian theologian Peter Jones (Professor of New Testament, Westminister Seminary, Escondido, California) is an affirmation of biblically based Christian perspectives on the intertwined nature of spirituality and sex, and the corrupting influences of the broader secular culture. In "The God Of Sex", Professor Jones also addresses the concept of spirituality and sexuality as defined in pagan terms, why and how pagan approaches to human sexuality produce a `culture of death', defines biblically based spirituality and sexuality, why and how the Christian approach to human sexuality produces a `culture of life', and why the issues of human sexuality and human spirituality are so critically important for the Christian community to understand within the context of biblical teachings, instructions, and commandments. When dealing with these complex and controversial issues, "The God Of Sex" is strongly recommended as critically important and highly informative reading for clergy and laity alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars boldly to the point..., October 16, 2008
Boldly to the point...
Peter Jones courageous tackles the topic of sexuality. God created everything and declared it good. It is in the scriptures; check out Genesis. However, man has perverted what God has created.

The first section of The God of Sex discusses paganism. Wicca, New Age, Ecumenicalism, are all gaining popularity. Liberated marriages and liberated sex, liberated families and liberated gender are terms many of us "older folk" never thought we would hear.

Young people today want an open, frank discussion of sexuality. They are begging for guidance from Christian leaders. Yet the church prefers to hide its head in the sand and hope the questions will go away. People are besieged by the readily available pornography, abortion, the promotion of homosexuality, and promiscuity. It is no wonder today's young adults are asking questions.

The second part of The God of Sex returns us to basic Biblical beliefs. Many will not like Jones' message. Everything God created is good. Jones continues by discussing God's holiness and the relationship with sexuality.

Not everyone will appreciate this book. It is boldly to the point. Jones calls for a Holy relationship with God, and that includes Holy sexuality. This is a very important book for all Christians.

5.0 out of 5 stars theology of sexuality, June 8, 2008
By Joshua D. Jones (Enniskillen, Northern Ireland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The first three chapters were tough to get through as he highlights the teachings of radical pagan theorists. I thought this might end up being one of those "look how dumb the other side is" type book in the culture wars.
But then the book exploded into one of the most well thought out explainations of how our theology and sexuality intertwine. He presents sexuality as a sacrament of who God is and thus different sexualities represent different gods. It was a scripturally and intellectually rich book and am suprised that it is not a higher seller.
