Editorial Reviews

Review

Clinical and Experimental Opthalmology, Volume 34 -- "The latest edition of Review Questions in Ophthalmology is a comprehensive question and answer book aimed primarily at ophthalmology registrars approaching final examinations. All the information is presented in a multiple-choice format with clear and concise explanations provided at the end of each chapter. There is an emphasis on case-based scenarios. The book is illustrated with both colour and black and white photographs including clinical photographs, imaging and fluoroscein angiograms. Overall, I found this to be a comprehensive text that would be a useful self-assessment tool for registrars approaching final examinations. The clinically orientated and pathology sections are excellent and the multiple-choice format is a nice break from reading didactic texts."

Product Description

Updated for its Second Edition, this question-and-answer review book offers a concise review of ophthalmology. It combines a review of basic ophthalmology with real-life clinical cases and multiple-choice questions with answers and explanations. More than 400 clinical photographs, fluorescein angiograms, and CT, MRI, and ultrasound images help readers master this visually oriented specialty. This edition has over 100 new full-color illustrations. Focusing on common diseases, the book covers all specialty rotations, plus key areas such as embryology, anatomy, pediatrics, plastics, and lenses. This edition includes new cases and information on new drugs, especially glaucoma drugs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for OKAP preparation, February 15, 1999
By A Customer
This is an excellent review of the fundamentals of ophthalmology. The question content is similar to that of the pretest review book, or even just a little more complex. If you are looking for a good board review book, this is certainly one you will want. Several questions off of the okap were exactly the same as in this book. This book is definately more in depth than a non ophthalmologist would want to go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good review book, November 13, 2001

This book has hundreds of questions, conveniently divided into roughly the same sections as the BRS series. The answers are well explained, although the quality of the black and white photos is suboptimal.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Review Book for OKAPS, May 20, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
If you study the Ophthalmology Review Manual and work the questions in this book, you will do well on OKAPS. The questions in this book are superb. They really hit the highlights on very important topics. I would supplement the optics, and would supplement the pathology sections (as would be expected).

I recently bough the Mass Eye and Ear Review Manual and it is good too. It has more questions, but the questions are not as good overall. There is a lot more minutia in the Mass Eye and Ear question book. The Chern book you will get the most bang for your buck, hands down.

4.0 out of 5 stars Probably the best Q&A book to prepare for boards/OKAPS
The questions in this book look very much like the questions in the BCSC series and the OKAPs, which are supposed to look like the boards. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Riddled with typos and errors

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Review Book
Overall a nice supplement for the boards - it seems to have enough variety and not come straight from the Chern review book. Pictures are decent - not all in color yet. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Same as older edition
If you have the older edition, do not buy this update. It is the exact same, except for the cover.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best question and answer book for the OKAP and ABO boards
I have a ton of ophthalmology Q + A books including Mass Eye and Ear, ProVision, Ophtho Pearls. But the Chern book is the closest to the actual OKAP and ABO board questions. Read more
