4.0 out of 5 stars Rest of Book Holds Up, March 1, 1999
By grandpiano_57 "James" (Burlington, CT USA) - See all my reviews
I'm the lameo security expert! Anyway I came back to raise my assesment of this book as I found the rest of it held up very well. I felt I was a bit harsh before given that almost all these books have a problem here or there and this one actually is good in most areas. I also had not intended my review to go in twice. What interested me was finding reference to me as "lameo Security Expert". As one who is really trying to learn this material and not turn certification into a cheap reward, I think over reliance on Transcender and the goal of just passing so you can make the big bucks is ruining this opportunity for everyone. I explaned security as it is and as I learned it and in a way I had hoped would help others. To be chastised for that I think shows you where the certification program is heading. Too bad.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book with the Transcender test is a sure winner!, September 29, 1998
By A Customer
I had never taken a Microsoft test before. I installed Windows NT Workstation on my computer at home and as I went through this book I followed along. If you can't afford NT, at least download the 120 Day Trial Version from Microsoft's web site. As you study, be sure you hi-lite! That's the key! I then tooks the Transcender test and whatever questions I missed I went back to this book and reviewed that particular area. I really like how this book gets to the heart of the material.. It does an excellent job explaining CSNW and NWLink, Printing, and explains the NTVDM clearly! I spent 14 days studying for the 70-073 using only this book and the Transcender. I passed with 882/1000 the first try! Having NT installed on your machine is a must.. There is no excuse for not doing this since there is a TRIAL version available for download.

I assume this is Sybex's way of competing again Coriolis "Exam Cram" series. In my whole hearted opinion, this blows exam cram away. If you go to the examcram.com web site you will see that almost all their books have gone through 5 printings is just over a year and STILL have tons of mistakes. The Exam Notes book had no errors (except a few typos, but nothing of impact towards the exam). The Exam Cram series even screwed up on their "cram sheet" that you're supposed to use right before the test..and yes, that's in all five printings! I look forward to using the Exam Notes for all my tests..you'll find that information from Nt Workstation will carry over into Nt Server and Nt SITE tests. So using this series really helps!

These authors are great! Keep up the awesome work!
