Product Description

A complete study guide for MCSE exam 70-220, Windows 2000 Network Security Design. Offers in-depth coverage of every topic on the exam. The CD-ROM contains a Sybex Edge testing engine, two bonus sample exams with case studies, electronic flashcards for PCs and Palm devices, and two complete electronic books.

From the Publisher

The new edition of the MCSE: Windows 2000 Network Security Design Study Guide is the ultimate study tool for exam 70-220, Designing Security for a Microsoft Windows 2000 Network. Working in conjunction with our team of expert authors, we've made significant enhancements to the study guide based on reader and instructor feedback gathered over the past year.

So what's new? We've replaced virtually all of the review and bonus exam questions with more challenging questions that better reflect the difficulty of the actual tests; we've added Real World Scenarios to provide additional insights into the intricacies of planning for and designing a solid security scheme for a Windows 2000 network; and we've added Exam Essentials sections to each chapter, where key exam topics are highlighted. All this in addition to significant improvements to the overall instructional quality of the book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good overall, but lot of extraneous material, January 23, 2002
The book does indeed cover every objective of the 70-220 Microsoft exam. However, more than half of the book is, or at least seems, irrelevant to the topic of the book. First 6 chapters all discuss the types of company models, management methodologies, risk analysis, analysis of current infrastructure, requiremenets analysis, and so on. Indeed, all of these do apply to how security would be designed for a network, but frankly, most technical readers would tire out reading 300 pages of business material (types of managements, types of companies, risk management analysis, etc).

I do think that all of this stuff was necessary in the book, but not with the length that it has. It should have been dealt with more succintly.

All in all, a good overall book, but for the purposes of the exam, I wouldn't choose this book

4.0 out of 5 stars Only Book used to pass 220 exam, May 10, 2005
By Tony in Oz (Sydney, Australia) - See all my reviews
I bought this book & yes it is quite a long read, it did give alot of background info in rolling / upgrading a secure windows 2000 network, but the information to pass the 70-220 exam is in there & thats the main thing.
Maybe if I was in I.T. to just pass exams I'd have chosen to get the MS Book, but I do love my Cappuccino's.

1.0 out of 5 stars What a waste of good trees, April 14, 2002
By Atlanta Network Guy (Atlanta, GA United States) - See all my reviews
Somewhere in this book there may be the information necessary to take the MCSE Security Exam 70-220. I couldn't find it, maybe you can. The author rants on about coffee shops and lakes of Minnesota, doing his best to be like Garrison Keillor telling the "Tales of Lake Wobegon", which may be entertaining in a detached way, but has absolutely no place in a test prep manual.

He is also obsessed with a book written by Bill Gates, and works it into his presented lessons, when even Microsoft doesn't try to make the Gate's book into an MCSE issue.

Clearly the author has lost the sense of mission in this manual, which is to help you get through the test, not entertain you (actually, I'm not sure the author actually entertains anyone except himself).

If you want to pass the test, stick with the Microsoft dull, boring training manual which actually has the info you need to pass the test.

This book was just a waste of money to me, it's too big to even hold up the leg of a wobbley table well.
