3.0 out of 5 stars Nothing new here, but fantastic ending, December 7, 2005
It also has a very creepy and gross beginning, even though there's nothing really to it, it's just Chucky getting rebuilt, but it's still creepy. (Although interestingly, you find out exactly how they put freckles on a doll.)

There's not much of a continuation from the previous film to this, and there's nothing new, apart from the introduction to some new characters, two of whom get quickly killed off, and one who survives. Much more is done with Chucky's eyes, which could practically look straight through you - just evil enough for a doll.

The finale is terrific, and as I still have another 3 films to watch, I'm so curious as to how the writers managed to think up more ways for Chucky to return. You'd think at the end of this movie, he's gone for good, but he's not!

It's a decent enough sequel, sticking close enough to the original to keep viewers happy, and just enough gory bits to keep you going. I look forward to the next three, but I will never, ever, let any kids I have see these.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent, June 12, 2001
This review is from: Child's Play 2 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Unlike the first (great) and the fourth (bad) this movie falls squarely in between somewhere.

After apparently being retrived from Andy's mom's fireplace, a greedy playpal's company orders the pint-sized serial killer rebuilt to salvage the corporation's understandably faltering Pr image. Once reborn, Chucky decides to track down andy and pickup where he left off.

Andy is sent to a foster home that looks like the parents rake in billions taking care of foster kids. Given their young age, and the realities of foster parent payment, one can only guess how they got the perfect house that Barbie must have built. It's difficult to pinpoint how many rooms this thing has, but it must dwarf the white house for space, and is too sterile and quiet for a child's haven.

Kyle, a perpetual foster kid, is Andy's new sidekick in the film. She is a streetwise young woman who does not take any garbage from anybody and ultimately helps Andy destroy Chucky.

Another problem I had with the film stems from the dommineering teacher. I never thought I would say this (and please note, I am not endorsing school violence in anyway) but congrats to Chucky for taking out Ms. Kettlewell after she completely humiliated Andy in the classroom in front of his peers. Granted, there is an inconsistency because the whole mess started with Chucky writing bad words on Andy's paper about the teacher, but she was just so unlikeable to begin with.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just as good and entertaining as the first., August 7, 2000
By Seifer (The USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Child's Play 2 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Note: contains spoilers.

Child's Play 2 is an excellent follow up to the original Child's Play.In my opinion it's just as good as CP 1,if not better. The story, though cool,is a bit predictable and CP 2 has quite a lot of false shocks. In fact, most of the scares are predictable. However,CP 2 added a VERY welcome sense of humor and Chucky has one-liners galore here. There are tons of funny moments.I laughed really hard throughut the entire film. The level of gore is also a little higher than that of the first,so if your looking for gore, you won't be disappointed.Chucky's demise at the end is very gruesome and some of his victims die pretty painfully. The music is very good ands works quite well with the movie. It's scary,action-packed,and at times, heroic and dramatic.Whoever composed the music here should win an award. The score is fantastic. The acting is still great.Brad Dourif is still very devilish at voicing Chucky and he curses a whole lot here. There are lots of amusing moments and the finale in the Good Guy doll factory is one of the best movie finales I've ever seen and is by far the best overall part of the film.Overall, Child's Play 2 is a simply excellent sequel to the excellent original. It's not as dark as the first, nor as scary, but it's so damn entertaining.CP 2 lacks quite a lot in scares due to a lot of plot holes and humor, but the film is simply great fun. I would suggest you buy it now.

Rated R for some gruesome death scenes and a lot of profanity.
