Amazing, August 21, 2006
I just recieved this a few days ago, and I'm very pleased with my purchase. I never got a chance to read the actual comics...being that I live in a one horse town where there is no chance of ever having a comic book store. So that being said....please forgive me my comic brothers for only being familiar with this graphic novel?
I was very suprised at how well the writers transfered our favorite hero's into super monsters and yet still retained some or more of thier former personality. The way Spiderman still had his wit...and his guilt for things he had done. The art was outstanding too. The way the heros where destroyed versions of thier former selves, and the villians hadn't really changed all the much....notice the hobgoblin who looked no different.
Magnetos character was played out perfectly, it was amazing how he still had his elitist personality right up until his end. It's exactly how I would have expected him to go out.
I would definately recommend this title to anyone who loves comics/horror and may be looking for something a little different. Also, if you haven't already, make sure you check out the Walking Dead series, also by Robert Kirkman. I've never been a fan of the Fantastic Four, but intend to start the Ultimate Fantastic Four series just to see how all this started as well as the Exiles #85-86 concerning the Zombie Wolverine crossover.

Pretty bad but fun, August 10, 2009
I like zombie stories and I love Marvel, but this was kind of a letdown. It's kind of disquieting to see superheroes, previously staunch defenders of good, do a complete 180 and start chomping on cities and trying to infect other superheroes without much explanation. Since they remain sentient, I would think that they would immediately kill themselves to protect humanity and end their painful hunger, but I guess having your brain zombified changes the way you view the world.
When I was reading, I was surprised by the lack of unique personalities. It was more of a book about zombies who could think and had superpowers. Not necessarily Spider-Man as a zombie, Wolverine as a zombie, etc. They were all written to be sarcastic and slightly sadistic without much differentiation.
Weak story and characters. That being said, I couldn't stop reading. Pretty entertaining and nauseating book. If you're into the purity and nobility of the superhero mythos, this book is not for you. It will disturb you greatly. But if you enjoy subversive takes on the superhero genre, check it out. Nothing compared to The Boys Vol. 1: The Name of the Game (v. 1) by Garth Ennis, but in the same vein of superheroes as sublime jerks and misusing their powers. There are also some horrific battle wounds that are fun to witness.
If you get "Marvel Zombies," make sure to get Marvel Zombies: Dead Days TPB too. The purpose driving the zombies to infect other superheroes and maintain their existence makes A LOT more sense. Robert Kirkman's writing also improves (I had to check the writing credits to make sure he was still the author). Plus the zombie aspect is primarily woven into an actual Fantastic Four storyline, so the plot and characterization are much more solid. There's also more suspense since the FF need to find a way to survive and the high stakes nature of fighting superhero zombies is highlighted to a greater degree.

An impulse purchase, June 7, 2009
I saw the title and decided to pick it up as a joke.
It was different seeing the Marvel heroes and villains as flesh hungry zombies. It started with a flash in the sky, a rumble through the clouds and the hunger followed. Now the heroes prey on those they used to protect. After just about eating the planet they ponder what to do?
Magneto finds himself yet again as fighting the forces of oppression or in this case predation. Will he succeed?
The Silver Surfer arrives. Will he be a foreign delicacy? Will his master be the main course?
Overall it was a fun little side track to the Marvel Universe. I liked how many of the characters still managed to keep some of their personalities even though they were monsters. I thought it was also interesting that the females managed to stay largely intact while their male counterparts were falling apart. I also liked seeing the zombiefied versions of old covers of the past.
I think I will check out the sequel.
