Editorial Reviews

Product Description

We are all, as Erwin Raphael McManus states, broken pieces of the image of God. And as Christians, too often we talk about God's ability to change lives without fully understanding how to access that power.

The reason is simple: we ourselves have never been radically transformed. McManus explains how many people unknowingly block God from changing us and teaches readers the texture of the heart required to unleash God's transforming power within us. He also demonstrates the passion and purpose that lie ahead when we undertake the journey that leads us to the true source, the very character of God. Fascinating stories from McManus's personal life and ministry, paired with fresh biblical teaching and profound insights, will astonish and challenge readers to break free from negative habits, destructive emotions, and other strongholds that hinder lasting transformation and to turn toward a life marked by enlightenment, nobility, and virtue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Erwin's Masterpiece, October 2, 2003
This book is outstanding. McManus once again challenges readers to think about their own lives and how they are living. Using what he calls, "The Character Matrix," he challenges us to go from self-focused slobs to servant-leaders. McManus presents three streams in this journey, greed -> generosity, foolishness -> wisdom, and pride - > courage. Each stream will force you to reflect on what kind of life you are living, and whether you are inwardly or outwardly focused.

The key focus of Erwin's book revolves around the fact Jesus washed his disciples feet as he modeled servant-leadership to his followers. McManus argues this model still applies today. I agree. Too many books on leadership talk nothing of character, McManus turns this on its ear. His book is all about character and out of it you will be a better leader.

In having the privelege of seeing McManus practice what he preaches, this is a man who is a servant-leader. Erwin pastors a church in Los Angeles called Mosaic, and serves his church well. I cannot give this book a higher recommendation than 5 stars, but it really is a 10. A+

5.0 out of 5 stars McManus gets back to the basics , September 5, 2004

(REAL NAME)
Uprising is the second book by Erwin Mcmanus that I have read. Just like "Seizing your divine moment", this book challenged my faith, and really made me contemplate my walk with God. The author does not pull any punches when he discusses what it takes to experience a revolution of the soul. I think many readers will be refreshed by his honesty and sincerity of the message.

The best aspect of this book to me is how McManus communicates the reality of what is required of us to be successful Christians. It takes our best, it takes time, and it takes a lot of hard work, discipline, and effort. But, we are all capable of it. Through his Son, God has made it possible for us to follow Him along the straight and narrow path. McManus does an excellent job of describing this path, and how to navigate it.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for ways to successfully follow Christ. Even mature believers can learn something new, and experience the uprising that McManus describes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Uprising, October 1, 2003
By Tim Shearer (Saint Joseph, Missouri United States) - See all my reviews
I am Erwin McManus' newest fan. His book challenged me to clarify and rethink word concepts such as integrity, gratefulness and service. He has a gift for connecting and contrasting words providing clarity and incite. I was compelled to re examine and re commit to basic beliefs that had been left to atrophy.
