The reputable Dr. Nathan Reynolds, who sees tiny Hillsboro and its residents as hopelessly backward, isn't the most pleasant of men, but the town begins to accept him when his new techniques save the life of the local minister's baby. Even though the doctor does not share her strong belief in God, Connie finds herself growing closer both to him and to God when her beloved uncle is diagnosed with cancer.
