Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreS Familiar objects and activities are identified in a family setting as a little girl experiences the first snowfall of winter. The Rockwells' single - and double - page watercolors in bright pas tels are crisp and appealing. The format is similar to that used in the authors ' earlier books. The text, however, is somewhat choppy and lacks the flow of Keats' classic Snowy Day (Viking, 1962). Preschoolers will nevertheless identify with this common event and will enjoy the clear uncluttered pictures which are large enough to be used for story hours. 5.0 out of 5 stars Simple But Engaging & Fun!, September 22, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The First Snowfall (Hardcover)
Anne Rockwell writes some of the best concept books for toddlers. The simple language flows smoothly from page to page and is complemented by clean, uncluttered pencil and watercolor illustrations. This is a great book to share with even the youngest reader as the winter season approaches. My 2-year old daughter enjoyed this book very much as she did other Anne Rockwell books: "Apples & Pumpkins", "At the Beach", and "Nice and Clean" which share the same high quality of writing and illustration. It is great to know that there are writers of children's books like her who do not rely on "cuteness" to teach or tell a story.
