Product Description

Imagine a Britain stripped of democracy, a world of the not-too-distant future in which freedom has been surrendered willingly to a totalitarian regime which rose to power by exploiting the people’s worst fears and most damning weaknesses.

This is the setting for the parable of Evey, a young woman saved from death by a masked man calling himself V. Beguiling and dangerous, V ignites the fuse of revolution when he urges his fellow citizens to shed the blanket of tyranny and oppression that they have permitted themselves to be cloaked in. While those in power take steps to neutralize the threat, police pursue the mystery of V, unaware of the terrible truth that awaits them. But it is Evey who, with V as her enigmatic guide, sets out on the painful path of deception and self-discovery, deconstruction and re-creation, vindication and vengeance.

From AudioFile

V FOR VENDETTA is a compelling novelization of a screenplay based on 1980s comic books by British writer Alan Moore. Britisher Simon Vance may be the perfect reader for the very British story of a masked man fanning the flames of revolution in a totalitarian future England. Vance draws listeners into his grim, scary world in which an iron-fisted ruler controls every thought and action. Particularly strong is Vance's portrayal of the frightened Evey, who is drawn into the revolution by the enigmatic "V," a man whose scarred face is hidden by a mask of the legendary British revolutionary Guy Fawkes. The story is powerful from start to finish, and Vance delivers it with astounding skill. M.S. © AudioFile 2006, Portland, Maine-- Copyright © AudioFile, Portland, Maine

5.0 out of 5 stars V for Very Good, May 12, 2006
V for Vendetta (9.5 hours, eight CDs, Unabridged, Blackstone Audio) is the spoken word version of the novelization of the movie script based upon the DC comics graphic novel (DON"T ASK ME TO REPEAT THAT SENTENCE AGAIN!). Simon Vance is a wiz in his narration. In this production, he is a one man band who preforms so this so well. Vance mesh characters so complete that you would think the studio was filled with people instead of the party of one. The fantasy story is part Count of Monte Cristo, which is eluded to many times the piece and part 1984. It was an interesting movie and an equally marvelous audiobook.
