From Booklist
McInerny, a Thomas Aquinas scholar who teaches philosophy at Notre Dame, is also the author of several mystery series, including the perennially popular Father Dowling novels. Here he debuts a new series starring Captain Egidio Manfredi of the Fort Elbow, Ohio, police force. Manfredi is staring at mandatory retirement when he and his young assistant are ordered to reopen a 30-year-old case involving the disappearance of the poet-wife of a now-retired professor. The professor has just married a graduate student who has been researching the life and work of his first wife. Things become more interesting when the young second wife also disappears, and everyone except the professor starts confessing to almost everything. As usual McInerny delivers an entertaining mystery that will appeal mostly to older readers. No drugs, no guns, no orgies--just good storytelling. Budd Arthur
