Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

As Lilian Jackson Braun, Rita Mae Brown, and others have demonstrated, cats and crime make a winning combination. In this amiable collection, genre veteran Gorman brings together 11 feline mysteries by an assortment of well- and lesser-known authors. Perhaps the finest story in the volume is "Cat Nap," by Kristine Kathryn Rusch, a moving and lyrical tale of a deeply sad man's love for his formerly abused cat. Also among the highlights is Gorman's own "The Christmas Kitten," in which attorney Sam McCain and Judge Eleanor Whitney, familiar from the author's novels, play second fiddle to a kitten named Sophie. Stories with talking cats often cross the line between cute and smarmy, but Lillian Stewart Carl's "Sardines for Tea," about two "veddy British" kitties that solve a jewel theft, never lets the unlikely premise interfere with the fun. Sure to be popular with the kitty crowd. Jenny McLarin

5.0 out of 5 stars eleven delightful yarns, April 4, 2003
This anthology lives up to its title as felines become involved in crime including solving and interfering as the cats risk their nine lives. The collection includes eleven delightful yarns from some of the genre's more powerful authors, but none of the contributors consistently feed the frenzy of cat lover sub-genre; in other words no Louie or Sneaky Pie, etc. making an appearance as a protagonist or author. Still the tales are well written and cover a wide spectrum of subclassifications so those fans of cat capers will loudly meow for KITTENS, CATS AND CRIME.
