3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but it could have been longer, April 20, 2009
This book interviews umpires who worked in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. They tell stories about memorable games they worked. There are a lot of umpires interviewed that were my favorites and I enjoyed catching up with them.

However, I wanted more. Gerlach's book provides dozens of pages for each umpire to tell their story from start to finish. Skipper's book tells a few stories of memorable games the umpires worked.

I wanted to read more. This is a fun read, but for umpire hardcore fans like myself, this book left me wanting more.

3.0 out of 5 stars Umpires: From those who made the call but aren't remembered, March 25, 2001
By Paul Bohannon (Houston, TX USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Stories told by former umps -- some of whom were considered marginal umps. That fact makes it interesting reading. It is a good research tool. But better reading can be found in Gerlach's book.
