Editorial Reviews
From Library Journal
As the popularity of perennial gardening grows, so does the number of new books on the subject. Following the format of his What Plant Where (LJ 11/1/95), Lancaster, a horticulturist and garden writer, organizes his book by topic, devoting each section to plants suitable for specific sites or uses (e.g., "Perennials for Cut Flowers," "Perennials Tolerant of Exposed, Windy Sites," etc.). Like other DK horticultural titles, the photographs here are very crisp, and the plants featured are clearly identified. Perennial purists might object to Lancaster's inclusion of bulbs. Also, as the primary purpose of this book is plant selection, there is really no general horticultural information (regarding fertilizing, division, etc.) that might help absolute gardening novices cultivate perennials. Still, this is an excellent complement to other, more basic books on perennial gardening. Recommended for larger public libraries and other libraries with comprehensive gardening collections.?Brian Lym, Strybing Arboretum Society Lib., San Francisco
