Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review
This aptly titled book is a virtual encyclopedia of household tips, shortcuts, repairs, and solutions covering just about every single aspect of the home and garden. Organized into four main sections--organizing, decorating, cooking, and gardening--this is a basement-to-rooftop advice book. It has a detailed and lengthy index for fast reference, a section on measurements and weights, another on useful terms, and each chapter includes a quick-reference chapter index along with tip boxes, safety warnings, checklists itemizing key steps, and points to remember in projects and tasks. All in all, there is a huge amount of useful, practical information on running, repairing, improving, and enjoying your home in this hefty book. --Mark A. Hetts

5.0 out of 5 stars A great reference for anyone with a home, May 24, 1999
By A Customer
This book covers everything about running a household. It has helped me organize my pantry, move, paint, etc. It is great to know that whenever I have a problem I can just look it up. Now, if they only had a similar book on cars....

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Book!, August 1, 2000
By Diane "dianezee" (New York City) - See all my reviews
Can a book about hints and tips for the home be beautiful? Indeed it can. And this one sure is. It is a joy to window shop through the pages of this lovely and beautifully designed book that will surely have something for everyone. I've only gone through the first few chapters -- about housekeeping -- and I've already written about 3 or 4 index cards worth of notes. Believe me, I'm not exactly the Happy Homemaker but I'm trying to mend my ways. And this book is not merely about housekeeping. In addition to housekeeping and house cleaning, the author, Cassandra Kent, has chapters about stain removal, clothes and laundry, care and repair, home improvements, home maintenance, food and drink and health and safety. This book is an excellent addition to anyone's household and it truly does have an abundance of useful, helpful and, hopefully, new information for those of us who are tired of being lousy housekeepers! The book itself is so lovely to look at, with a beautiful, user-friendly, easy-on-the-eyes layout, that even the grumpiest of housekeepers will find hours of pleasure from thumbing through the thousands and thousand of useful tips and hints. Good luck to all of you who, like me, are attempting to become reformed slobs! Already my home looks better. I now can say I no longer have a sloppy and cluttered home -- I have neat and clean clutter!

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly helper, October 7, 1999
By A Customer
This book is awesome... I consult very often, and even if I don't need to consult it, whenever I have some spare time, I get my book and read something new. It's a great shower gift.
