Product Description
Six silvery tales from around the world to delight and inspire Six stories of shimmering silver are gathered together in this enchanting collection of tales from around the world. From the silver fish that saves the life of a young girl to the horse with a silvery mane that brings good fortune, these magical tales will delight and inspire. Engagingly retold by Barbara Baumgartner, each tale includes a moral pointer to help guide the younger reader to a fuller understanding of the story, while Amanda Hall's wonderfully rich illustrations feature strands of silver that glows from every page.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice illustrations, Forget the stories!, August 20, 2003
The illustrations are pretty, especially the metallic silver touch!

However, the stories are [weak] and simplistic (nor all original -- the "Danced-Out Shoes" is a variation on the well-known Twelve Dancing Princesses story).

The stories have a "silver" theme forced on them; the morals at the end of each story also are forced, and do not depict our values. (For instance, in the first story, we think that the first sister was right to hurry home once she realized that the old woman had stolen their money.)

We love beautifully illustrated fairy and folk tales -- this one does NOT make the grade.
