Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review
Web Development with Visual Basic 5 is a detailed tutorial for the family of technologies that Microsoft has created for Web development. These technologies include Internet Explorer, ActiveX, VBScript, Active Server, WinCGI, and Microsoft Transaction Server. Visual Basic (and its cousin VBScript) serve as the logic glue and component-creation tools that bring it all together.

If you've decided to use these tools, Web Development with Visual Basic 5 brings together lots of information on how they can interact to form powerful Web-based applications. The text assumes that you are proficient in Visual Basic, but it introduces new concepts and techniques at a comfortable pace and provides lots of practical examples to get you started. The book covers everything from relatively simple client-side scripting to complex subjects such as server-component creation, OLEISAPI applications, remote data access, and distributed transaction processing. While most of the discussion assumes that you are using Microsoft technology on the server side, it also covers Netscape and regular CGI server interfaces.

Product Description
Aimed at intermediate to advanced Visual Basic programmers, this book is the VB programmer's guide to building Internet and World Wide Web applications. With Visual Basic 4 and the use of VB Script, complete multimedia applications will be much easier to build. The CD contains code from the book, VB Script (if possible), necessary TCP/IP files, example applications, and Web pages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for intermediates and professionals, July 20, 1998
By A Customer
Actually I've been reading this book for 2 weeks, and I'm really surprised with its contents. A concise, well-oriented book, it teaches you every aspect of web development, using Microsoft technology ( IIS, VBScript, ActiveX, WINCGI and so on ) Warning: you will enjoy this book only if you have intermediate to advanced skills in VB5, and it also needs familiarity with Internet. By far, one of the most complete books about web development. Next time I tell you about the CDROM, cause I have not seen it yet.

3.0 out of 5 stars Written and edited by functional illiterates, January 25, 1999
By A Customer
This book has been written and edited by functional illiterates who have trouble with tense, number, etc. Many of the references to figures, etc. are incorrect. Several of the C language examples are incorrect. On the other hand it has information I've not been able to find anywhere else.
