Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Windows 95 and NT 4.0 Registry & Customization Handbook goes well beyond the expected catalog of keys to explain Registry-related programming in C++ and Visual Basic. The programmer's guide to the Registry focuses on the technical requirements programs must meet in order to merit Microsoft's coveted "Designed for Windows 95 and NT" certification and logo. For the systems administrator, there's plenty of information on Registry security (with excellent explanations of System Policy Editor, including template files) and remote administration with Registry Editor. Although it covers Registry-customizing software, no CD-ROM or disk accompanies the book. However, Windows 95 and NT 4.0 Registry & Customization Handbook remains an excellent value, particularly for those who plan to do some Windows programming in addition to their administrative duties.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is THE Windows registry book to have., August 23, 1998
I went from knowing little about it to Windows 95 and NT 4.0 registry expert. Moderatly simple yet thorough chapters that take you from what is the registry through using registry editor all the way to developer level .inf setup. It might not be the book for raw beginners, but intermediate power users through to advanced programmers will find this book useful. It does a great job of comparing/contrasting 95 and NT registry differences and though set up in a learning chapter format it still makes a good reference manual.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too much repetition in the program sections, December 13, 1998
By A Customer
This is a good book for learning to tweek NT, but not much help on the subject of application installations. Nothing on the shell link for installing Icons to the desk top or an explanation of the steps to correctly add the install/remove keys to the registry during application installations which I expected to be in the C++ programing section of the book.
