1.0 out of 5 stars If you are serious, put it back, August 31, 2000
By Yechiel M. Kimchi (Technion, Haifa, Israel) - See all my reviews
This book is full of errors, and it made me wonder where in the world this author got so many misconceptions about C. Evidently, he either has not read the book by Kernighan and Ritchie (the originators of C), or has not understood it, yet. If you want to become a serious programmer in C, consult the 2000 reviews at ACCU (Association for C and C++ Users) Internet site. If you just want to impress your friend at your first date, make sure your date does not know C better than this author, because this book is just as bad as so many C/C++ books in the market.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Book, April 2, 2002
By A Customer
Firstly I shall explain a little about myself,
I wanted to use embedded microcontrollers and started off by learning assembly language, soon I found it wasnt powerfull/flexable enough for what I needed, so C was the way I was told to go.
After some weeks of looking through books, I found this one..
I did my usual trick of reading the first chapter, and for the first time since my quest for a C book I understood it! Im a hardware guy by trade/way of thinking and many programming books simply Confused me.

Haveing worked through the book, I found it easy to read and very helpfull. At times it may seem a little 'chatty' but to be honest this is one of the things that keeps the book easy to read!
I taught myself C from this book in about 6 months, its so easy to get something basic like a 'hello world' program up and running in about an hour, and its VERY satisfying to see..

Its a superb beginners book, but as for reference its ok, but not as good as the K&R white book..

If you want to teach yourself C and you know NOTHING about C , This is the book for you... if you already know C and want a reference book, you wont like this book...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Beginners, May 23, 2000
By A. C. Johnson (Oakland, CA USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book should be the textbook for Beginning Computer Programming.

I am a relative beginner to programming. In the past, I have found programming tutorial books to be absolutely boring because they lacked examples. This book is ALL examples. It is a very good way to teach the language because at every stage of the learning process, I am forced to take an active role in the learning process. I am halfway through the book and I have already typed in about 20 mini-programs that have progressively become harder and more complex. The result is that I am naturally becoming comfortable with the C computer environment.
