Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Boy meets girl, boy falls in love. Girl loses dog, boy finds dog, decides to be a hero. But wait--the girl has an oily Euro ex-boyfriend, and the dog swallows the boy's best friend's wedding ring and can't be returned to the girl until the ring is, uh, found. Fans of There's Something About Mary should like this light-as-a-feather comedy, since it heists plot devices directly from that film. Think about it: there's two guys competing for the same girl, a scruffy-but-lovable terrier, and even a clutch of oversexed old ladies. David Spade, Saturday Night Live alum, is marginally less grating and more likable in this slight romantic comedy. Unfortunately this film is also littered with some pretty bad gags (beware of Spade's lengthy Neil Diamond impersonation), poo-poo jokes, and a character who's a direct stand-in for the late Chris Farley. Sophie Marceau, gorgeous as she is, apparently speaks her lines in phonetic English for all the feeling she puts into them. Still, this is suitable for stashing your brain under the couch for an evening. --Jerry Renshaw

3.0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected, December 11, 1999
By A Customer
To tell you the truth, I'm not a David Spade fan...I find him irritating. But I'm a huge Sophie Marceau fan, and she was the only reason I decided to rent this movie (and even then reluctantly so). Well, the movie turned out to be better than I expected. And Spade was almost (operative word there) likable. Unoriginal? Yes; it share's too much in common with Something About Mary. But it was good for a few laughs; even my wife enjoyed it (and she's not normally a big fan of movies of thie genre). And more importantly, I got my fix of the talented and lovely Ms. Marceau for the evening.

3.0 out of 5 stars Better than expected, December 28, 1999

I never really cared for David Spade, but had to see this movie because I'm a Sophie Marceau fan. Turned out that Spade was very funny, his character very likable, the story a little stale but enough laughs to make up for it. Very cute movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars great, January 3, 2000
One Word people: Great. This movie is a collection of some of the best acting, dialogue, and one-liners ever. It is unoriginal, but i place this movie OVER There's Something About Mary. We continue going to see @Quentin Tarantino films, thought they aren't original. Come on people, this is one of the funniest movies of all time, it is on my top 10 list. Email me for the other 9. Thanks, Jonathan
