Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Gr 5-8-These pithy books about celebrity musicians fail to provide any real sense of why the early deaths of any of these performers was such a tragedy. If there is any unifying theme, it is the focus in each case on the subject's drug use and self-destructive behavior. None of the artists come across as particularly sympathetic characters. Unclear grammar and changes in tense are typical of the quality of writing found throughout. The books lack any documentation or source notes, and contain numerous unattributed quotations. All three volumes are illustrated with occasional color photographs that are sometimes only tangentially relevant. These titles are too short to provide any real meat for students doing reports, and are not detailed enough to provide anything of interest to young fans.-Tim Wadham, Dallas Public Library, TX

A Kid's Review
Alexis Robbins E pd. Mrs. Hembree

I did my biography on Elvis Presley. I liked learning about Elvis. Elvis Aaron Presley was born on January 8, 1935 to Vernon and Gladys Presley. He had a twin named Jesse, but he was stillborn. He was born in Tupelo, Mississippi. When he was growing up, he sang at a Prespertyrian Church, to whom his parents were members of. Elvis also use to hitch hike to a place called Saturday Night Jamboree every Saturday night, where he sang also. At the age of 17, he signed up for the air force, and was drafted when he was 18. Elvis Presley acted in MANY movies. And sang many songs. He got married to Pricila Presley and had a daughter. Elvis Presley was a very great actor and singer. He will always be remembered as "The King of Rock 'n' Roll."

4.0 out of 5 stars Elvis Presley , February 7, 2005
A Kid's Review
The book on elvis presley was a interesting book. I enjoyed it, but there was somethings that i did not like about too much. One thing that i did not like about the book is that it first starts talking about him preforming and becoming a rock and roll king in the first chapter and than in the second chapter it talks about when he was born and the rest of his life. This way of talking about the facts of his life were confusing to me and probably other people that have read this book. That is preaty much all of the things that i dont like about the book. The book has a time line in it which is very good thing. The book on elvis had alot of good details. Some of the details that the book included was that he was born on January 8, 1935 in tupelo mississippi, that he moved to memphis tennessee in the year of 1948, that in 1954 he becomes the "King of Rock and Roll", 1956 he has his first tv apperacne, 1960 he complets tour of duty and returns to the united stateson march 2, 1961 he preformes a concert in Honolulu, Hawaii, He was devoriced on October 9,1973, and then in 1977 he gives his last concert on june 26 but he also is killed by overdose in the same year. Some of major chracters in this book were Elvis and his mom, dad, his wife Priscilla, his only daughter Lisa Marie.
He was devoriced on October 9,1973, 1979 his father Vernon dies and his ex-wife priscilla and daughter Lisa Marie inherit the presley estate.
