5.0 out of 5 stars A Comprehensive Guide For Developing A Dynamic Church, May 23, 2002
By Todd Hudnall (Colorado Springs, CO) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Robert Logan has written a comprehensive guide to developing a dynamic church for the end of the Twentieth Century. When I first read the book in 1991, it had a positive influence on me and on the direction of my church. Looking back through the book I realize that I would have been more effective in my past decade of ministry if I had regularly used Logan's book as my reference guide. Beyond Church Growth contains ten key principles: The value of faith and prayer, becoming an effective pastoral leader, developing a culturally relevant philosophy of ministry, holistic disciple making, expanding a network of cell groups, developing and equipping leaders, mobilizing believer's according to spiritual gifts, appropriate and productive programming, and starting churches that reproduce. Some of the trends and current realities have changed but Beyond Church Growth is still an excellent resource for church leaders desiring to build prevailing churches.

4.0 out of 5 stars Insightful book from the trenches of church growth, August 4, 2003
By Robert Wynkoop (Washington State) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
It is Logan's thesis that church growth is much more than an increase in attendance rather, it is measured by the ministry of the church, it's impact on the surrounding community and it's ability to reproduced daughter churches. In this excellent book, Logan gives us ten key principles that are necessary to develop a dynamic, growing church and specific action plans to help implement this task.

After nearly failing in his own church planning efforts and being unable to find any written resources to tell him how to plant and grow a church, Logan vowed that if he ever succeeded he would write this book.

There are three chapters that stand head and shoulders above the rest. The first is on pastoral leadership. Using a sport's team motif, he lays out step-by-step what a pastor must do to build a winning team. Second, is the chapter on worship in which he states that worship must be modeled by the staff (no matter how uncomfortable one feels) until the congregation catches the vision. Finally, the chapter on disciple making remained me of this valuable need.
