Product Description

Henry Wolfe has a penchant for finding trouble. Or more precisely trouble usually finds him. It is the late 1920s and Wolfe, a traveling reporter/self-proclaimed adventurer, is hired to go on a mission deep into the dubious jungles of Venezuela.

Several months earlier, the son of a wealthy family disappeared during his search for a lost tride who reportedly had found the key to eternal life. Wolfe is a last-minute replacement on the team to go find and extricate the son, no matter what.

No white man has ever gone down this Venezuelan river path and returned alive. Local tribesman and predators lurk in the leafy shadows as Henry and his team fight for their lives.

From the Inside Flap

Fellow Adventure Seekers:

In the winter of 1928, the Prescott family contacted me about joining an expedition to the Amazon jungle in search of their missing son, Louis. The following is an account of our ill-fated journey into the unknown. It is a tale of adventure, mystery, and intrigue.

I didn’t leave anything out because I knew you’d be interested in hearing all the astonishing details—attacking snakes, foreboding jungles, killer jaguars, pools of piranha, breathtaking cliffs and waterfalls, and yes, even a forbidden city—it’s all in here.
And a few other . . . surprises.   Take the leap with me. You’ll enjoy it.   Henry Wolfe, 1929

Growing up I loved the Tarzan movies the local station aired on Saturday mornings. Dark jungles, lost treasure and danger at every turn. Adventure books were one of my favorites as a child and now it doesn't seem there are many of them, especially in the Christian Fiction genre. Maybe they don't sell well but as for me they are a great base for an exciting story. Sure there are adventures in fantasy novels but it's not the same as those based in this world.

Now comes a new man on the scene, Henry Wolfe. He's normal and no superman by any stretch, easy to relate to and tough when he needs to be. "Out of the Devil's Mouth" is an adventure to the dark forbidding jungles of the Amazon rain forest to look for a missing explorer who went to look for the Fountain of Youth that was rumored to be located by a lost city. As you can expect, nothing goes well and danger lurks at every bend in the river. I can honestly say I REALLY enjoyed this book. Not only was it fun to read I had a real hard time putting it down. The writing style was easy on the brain and wasn't bogged down with all those annoying descriptions. It ended with a positive message although I would have liked to have seen a plug or hint that there was a new adventure on its way. This book is listed as book 2 but it is really the first book. Travis wants to go back and write book one but I say move forward to and write book three. Do they find the Fountain of Youth? Read it to find out.

The question of faith was explored but for those of you who hate preaching you should be okay with it. The message flows into the story and doesn't come off as contrived. As most Christian fiction should be it honors God and should not be offensive to most believers. There is death and evil but not extremely graphic. I'd let a youth read it.

This was my first Travis Thrasher book and it won't be my last. The guys got talent and can weave a great story.

4.0 out of 5 stars A timeless adventure, October 3, 2009
Henry Wolfe is a journalist and a wanted man. Set in 1929, this adventure begins when Wolfe jumps into a river to escape Chicago mobsters. But almost before he has time to dry off, he is tackling another writing assignment along the Amazon River.

Wolfe braves strangling vines, flaming arrows, and thundering waterfalls while searching for Louis Prescott, the son of a wealthy New York family, who recently went missing while searching for the city of eternal life. Wolfe is sustained along the journey by the promise of a good story, the wit of his French mentor Max, and the hope of winning Kate Prescott's heart. Henry maintains his wry sense of humor while finding a mystical city that should remain lost and discovering the feisty and faithful Kate, without whom he is a lost man.

Travis Thrasher keeps the adventure captivating even while sorting through the timeless questions of faith, hope, and love.

4.0 out of 5 stars Travis knows how to write a thriller, October 23, 2008
A Kid's Review
This is my first book by Travis Thrasher but it will not be my last. This is a fun page turner with lots of action! If you like Indy Jones, you will love this book. Great writing by an author that I will read often in the future. I cannot wait to read another Travis Thrasher novel.
