Editorial Reviews

Product Description

What are the effects of psychoactive drugs on aspects of human behaviour, such as creativity, memory and sexuality? How effective are such drugs in treating mental disorders? How are new drugs tested and licensed?

An intriguing introduction to the study of psychopharmacology, this fully revised and updated edition of Drugs and Behavior presents a unique analysis of the ways in which human behaviour is affected by drugs, rather than simply by categories of drugs. The text covers the principles of neurotransmission, pharmacokinetics and drug classification. Issues of new drug development, including drug dangers and benefits, legalization and the prevention and treatment of drug abuse, are also discussed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended, May 24, 2008
I had the pleasure of taking Dr. Leavitts Methodology class at CSU East Bay, he's one of the most engaging, interesting and challenging teachers you'll ever have. His class isn't challenging because the material is hard to understand or time consuming, but because he challenges you to examine your own preconceptions and values in the most unbiased and fair way possible. Great and interesting read from a brilliant teacher.

1.0 out of 5 stars the author is a bias!, August 25, 2001
this book is based on the author's own personal opinion on drugs. He had stated repeatly on his book that all drugs should be legalize, and available to public, most illegal drugs are much effective than prescription drugs. Also, he critized numerous drug companies especially the way they market their drugs to the public (doctors). HELLO!? drugs company is no different than any other corporations-they need to make profits too. Basically, he is a bias.
