Gr 6-9--With a storyteller's skill for narrative, Lindop has condensed each president's life into 15-20-page chapters, emphasizing the leadership role each man played in his years of public service. The author's easy-flowing style is characterized by varied sentence structure, age-appropriate vocabulary, and objectivity. Relevant primary-source quotations are smoothly integrated into the text, and chapter footnotes are further evidence of careful research. Three fine, full-color reproductions of portraits of the subjects illustrate each text. Students requiring in-depth information must find it elsewhere, but these books will serve as brief introductions, and also offer some reference possibilities, not so much in the text, but rather in the addenda. ``Other Sources of Information'' lists many audiovisual resources, which will be useful for teachers. However, production years are not given.
