Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

YA. Scientists have been interested in the brain for centuries, but only recently has technology become sophisticated enough to provide clear pictures of its wonders. This book does a wonderful job of relaying these wonders to general readers. The basic text presents the most important information now available about the brain in language that is easily understood by those without specialized scientific background. Each double-page spread covers some aspect of the brain, such as specific areas, functions, thinking processes, or disorders. A cross-reference system on the recto pages cites connections, complete with page numbers, to other related topics. Anecdotes and case histories, such as the story of Beethoven's deafness and the history of Braille, are interesting and expand on the ideas in the text. The book is lavishly illustrated with pictures, drawings, charts, and other visuals. An excellent resource.?Elva Card, W. T. Woodson High School, Fairfax, VA

5.0 out of 5 stars You Will Love This Book!, March 30, 2000
By Robin Hurt (Mississippi) - See all my reviews
This is absolutely the best book on the subject of the human mind that I have ever seen. There are lots of pictures and plenty of different categories of interesting mind phenomena. This is not a reference or text book (thank goodness) but an owner's manual, as the editor says, and is fantastic for learning all about the latest findings about the mind or just casual browsing. You will love this book!
