4.0 out of 5 stars Good WWII read with a non-frantic pace, April 24, 2000
By A Customer
What do a grieving widower and Admiral Donitz have in common? They are both trying to stop Omega, a top-secret weapons system under development at Peenemunde, home of the V-1 and the V-2.

In this entertaining yarn, you'll meet such historical figures as Heinrich Himmler, Werner VonBraun, Prime Minister Churchill, and Wild Bill Donovan, and be taken from the U-boat pens at Lorient, to the rocket shops at Peenemunde, and to the Enigma coding rooms at Bletchley Park in a frightening what-if scenario combining advanced German weapons research with Nazi ruthlessness.

It's not a thrill-packed action tale a la Higgins, but a quieter, more thoughtful look at evil running rampant and people who are willing to put their all on the line to stop it. I found it both chilling and inspiring.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good work by a great author. , August 4, 2004

John F. Bayer takes us to periscope depth with "The Omega Deception" and sometimes even spooks the socks off of us at times!

Join Mark Shaw, a man who has lost everything, summoned to take on a most dangerous assignment. He becomes one of the SS, in an attempt to find a most secret and dangerous weapon that could indeed destroy the U.S. While taking on his role, he finds confidence in Kurt Daluege, discovering him to be a Christian in a most hostile environment. Shaw seeks nothing more than revenge against the despicable SS, yet comes to the realization that revenge belongs to our Father in Heaven.

Prepare to meet the likes of Winston Churchill. Or maybe even feel what it is like for Heinrich Himmler to be under the likes of the icy darkness of Fuhrer Adolf Hitler. You'll also see names such as Wild Bill Donovan, on the creative side of Bayer's writing.

A good read, but not the page turner I expected, fans of Bayer will be pleased with this work.

5.0 out of 5 stars So easy to pick up and so hard to put down, February 11, 2001
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
The Omega Deception is a faced paced action novel that finds a sinister German plan being developed in order to bring America and its allies to their knees at the height of World War II. Posting as a soldier and loyal follower of Hitler, Michael Shaw is assigned to the Peenemunde research facility where he discovers the Germans are developing a sophisticated rocket propulsion system to launch chemical weapons from U-boats off the eastern coast of America. Finding a surprising confidante in civilian scientist Kurt Daleuge, Shaw must learn all he can about the upcoming attack targeted at Wall Street, and with Daleuge's's help, intercede before millions of Americans are killed. Against this historical wartime drama is the personal struggle of a man seeking to find the faith he lost with the death of his wife. The Omega Deception is a superbly written, totally engaging novel, the kind that is so easy to pick up and so hard to put down.
