Product Description
How powerful is integrity? Just ask minister-turned-statesman, Mike Huckabee.  As lieutenant governor of Arkansas in 1996, he was publicly cast between the ultimate rock and hard place when his boss, governor Jim Guy Tucker, refused to resign despite his felony convictions in the Whitewater scandal.  Holding fast to the tenets of honor and faith, and his concern over what was best for the state’s people, Huckabee led the impeachment charge against his superior before a televised audience. That same day, Tucker resigned, and Huckabee would serve as governor of Arkansas until 2007, winning many national honors along the way. Character Makes a Difference is Mike Huckabee’s biographical account of how he handled that potentially major constitutional crisis and why he believes character is the key issue in everyone’s life, “in the work you do, the candidates you vote for, the people who look to you for leadership.”

About the Author
Mike Huckabee recently completed more than ten years of public service as governor of Arkansas. In 2005, Governing magazine named him among the Public Officials of the Year, TIME magazine called him one of the five best governors in America, and he received the AARP Impact Award recognizing those who have done something extraordinary to make the world a better place. An outspoken man of Christian faith, Huckabee is also a musician, playing bass guitar in his rock-and-roll band Capitol Offense. In January 2007, he received the Music for Life Award from NAMM for his outstanding support of music arts and education. Mike and his wife, Janet, have three grown children: John Mark, David, and Sarah.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mike who?, December 28, 2007

I have to admit that I did not know much about Mike Huckabee until recently. Mike's book is a great insight into the man and his thoughts. The book was written years before he became a presidential candidate - so it is a great source for understanding who Mike is and where he is coming from. I highly recommend reading the book so you can be a better informed voter - but even if Mike was not running for public office, the book is worth reading because of the wisdom that Mike shares.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone in America should read this book, January 27, 2008
By David St Vincent (Ocala, FL USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book is very well written and comes across as sincerely from the heart. It's a great perspective at an event in recent history where you can hear "the rest of the story", or at least the behind the scenes part. Mike Huckabee just comes across as that guy we've all been searching for who embodies the values missing in our present society and spotlight today. If the phonecall from God dosn't push you off the fence, Character Makes a Difference will.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Insight into A Man of Character, November 24, 2007
Great insight into the life of a man in the spotlight. Being in the spotlight brings out character. Mike is very transparent and humorous as an author. His humble beginning and his strong Christian values have greatly influenced his decisionmaking and impact on politics in Arkansas as evidenced in this interesting and thought provoking book. Character Makes A Difference gives an insightful look into the life of a key actor in today's political arena.

1.0 out of 5 stars Slow moving and predictable book
As much as I "adore" Mike this is a slow moving book with predictable story lines. Unless you live in Arkansas, there is not much of interest in these stories.
