5.0 out of 5 stars Me Too!, May 1, 2000
By Marilyn Ciccotosto (Montreal canada) - See all my reviews
THis little lovely illustrated spiral bound cookbook is the dessert staple cookbook of our household.. I first discovered it when I took over my mothers cafe'. She baked the best 3 layer cakes in the city and I had a tough act to follow. Customers were loyal to their favourites, and I had to find my niche to attract the students from the nearby universities. Since I absolutely had no experience baking but a love of fine chocolate ,nuts and other sinfully rich ingredients I started my cookbook search in the local bookstore. Almost immediately I was drawn to this cookbook. First it was small therefore not too much information to digest. Then the illustrations were tempting and homemade looking. Finally the directions were absolutely simple. A little bit of very helpful information about working with chocolate, very clear steps cute little personal notes from the writers at the bottom of these recipes pages.. I bought the book and the rest was history. My very first try was theCointreau fudge cake >. It was a huge cake very dense moist and delicious. Next was the chocolate mirror glaze to top my chocolate decadence torte The black forest cherry torte went to our local radio morning man who made me laugh so hard every morning on our way to work..Chocolate heaven pie OH MY GOD! As i look at my book in front of me now The stains on this page make me drool by memory alone. My customers were loyal too...I built a reputation in the downtown core of montreal on some of the recipes in this book. Christmas baking includes family favourites.. Each member of my family has their choices.. Our all time favourite is the PECAN SHORTBREAD SQUARES> THE ABSOLUTELY ULTIMATE IN DELICIOUS> Diddy"s delights ,incredibly simple and this is the little gem of a cookie that goes to the bake off sales at school, the little box of cookies for dessert at a friends for dinner 4 ingredients and voila ....Aunt Marthas almond crescent cookies TO DIE FOR .. again only 4 or 5 ingredients.. I could go on and on forever,, Just one more thing the toasted almond butter crunch pound cake never surevives the prebaking crust snitchers... I love this book... My daughter is getting one for her shower for her upcoming wedding. She lives in Vancouver now and I don't know if the lazy gourmet is still around Vancouver where this cookbook originates but their coveted recipes live on in this large families lives... They will be around for generations to come ... ENJOY>>>

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Dessert Cookbook Ever!, December 7, 2007
By L. Coggin (Huntsville, AL (formerly from Vancouver)) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Bascially Susan uses good ingredients in ample amounts to assure the simplest, yet most delicious outcomes. My cookbook also has stained pages which attest to many mouth-watering items that have been created from them. One that has to be added to the list of the previous reviewer is the Money-Back Guarantee brownies that are the best (and easy) - when paired with the chocolate icing on page 11 which is the best I've ever made, it's a lethal combination that always sells out at bake sales. I hope she re-issues this cookbook at some point so that everyone doesn't miss out on it.
