3.0 out of 5 stars Cousins to the Kudzu, September 29, 2000
By Doug Campbell (Newnan, Ga.) - See all my reviews
Combine Caldwell's short stories with Anderson's Winesburg, Ohio, then add a good dose of Twain's humor, satire, and his view of mankind, plus a dash of the Southern myths and history and you'll have William Doxey's novel. A good read for those that enjoy the possible stories behind the every day actions of people in a small town.

2.0 out of 5 stars Vignettes of Insipid and Stupid People, May 25, 2009
This book is about the southern town of Oughton, 50 miles from Atlanta. The book consists of vignettes of the lives of folks who live there. There is a lot of meaningless sex, stupid people and insipid lives.

The writing is poor but there are some good ideas espoused. The main problem with the book is that the writing is so strained and artificial that it is almost impossible to concentrate on the dialogue.

I enjoyed this book and think it should have gotten more attention. It is a great book about the south. It is also written by my father.
