Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Who says a thorough reference book has to be dull? Filled with minutiae and irrelevance as well as useful information, Chase's Calendar of Events is about as eclectic as it gets. Turn to a day and find an armful of fact--not all of it relevant, but pretty much all of it fun. Birthdays and anniversaries of historical happenings are duly noted with capsule descriptions of the whos, whats, and whys. Need a reason to celebrate? How about Hug an Australian Day, April 26? Or Answer Your Cat's Question Day, January 22? Or National Mole Day, October 23? Special events with fixed schedules--the Festival of the North in Ketchikan, Alaska; Mudbug Madness, in Shreveport, Louisiana; the Edinburgh International Festival; and the Super Bowl, for instance--are properly inked in so you can't possibly forget them. Best of all, the book comes with a postcard redeemable for a free, searchable CD-ROM of its more than 12,000 entries. Irresistible and dangerously addictive entertainment. --Sunny Delaney

4.0 out of 5 stars Makes the world a more entertaining place, October 24, 1999
By A Customer
I've bought Chase's Calendar of Events every year since 1996. It's great fun to discover a reason for a special celebration nearly every day, and even more fun to amaze one's friends by announcing that it's "Take Your Houseplant for a Walk Day" or casually mentioning that you share a birthday with Beatrix Potter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Business People and Parents, June 22, 2000
By Po (Edison, NJ United States) - See all my reviews
I have bought this book for the first time, and it is not just a conversation piece. I use it to keep track of secondary holidays and events and promote products at appropriate times. If you are in retail or consumer products, it can be fun and creative to notify customers of Arbor Day, Flag Day, religious holidays, famous people birthdays,...and promote your products or create displays for them.

GREAT for teachers, parents, store-owners, and anyone who cares.....

I'm writing this review on June 22. I hope all in Boise enjoy the River Festival. And if you're in Luling, TX, I hope you win the annual watermelon seed-spitting contest. Oh! And I almost forgot: Happy Birthday Lindsay Wagner! And to all you contestants in the Miss Virginia pageant: Love your hair! Hope it wins!
