Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal
Hepatitis, a complex, ever-challenging viral illness, continues to keep scientists and physicians groping for answers and treatments. Hepatitis C (HCV), discovered in 1989 and responsible for 10,000 U.S. deaths annually, is distinctive because it causes chronic conditions such as serious liver damage, cirrhosis, liver cancer, and death. Treatment options are limited, no vaccine is available, interferon has been the therapy of choiceAand there is a lack of education among primary caregivers. Health writer Turkington (The Brain Encyclopedia, LJ 7/96) provides a comprehensive sourcebook covering all aspects of its transmission and treatments modalities from drug therapies to liver transplantion. Appendixes include HCV support organizations, research groups, and websites. Addressed to the general reader, those infected, and their families, this book is comparable to Gregory T. Everson and Hedy Weinberg's Living with Hepatitis C (LJ 11/15/97), and consumer health collections may wish to purchase both.AJames Swanton, Harlem Hosp. Lib., New York

5.0 out of 5 stars easy to understand, written in plain english., September 14, 1999
By A Customer
Dont let the title scare you, this is an incredibly awesome book. It deals with symptoms, treatments, gives other links. It is very informative, and written in plain english. I would suggest it for reading to anyone just diagnosed with hepatitis c. It is also great to let family members and friends read it, so they can understand the disease, and the changes you will go through.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for those infected with Hepatitis C., January 29, 1999
By A Customer
Carol Turkington takes the mystery out of what you can expect upon a diagnosis of Hepatitis C. It is written very clearly and in layman's language for the patient. Very up to date. All you need to know, including a listing of organizations to keep you in the know. It could have been called "A Patient's Handbook on Hepatitis C". Hopefully it will be translated for distribution worldwide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great explanations for those newly diagnosed, May 29, 1999
By A Customer
A thorough book with technical medical information presented in a way that is understandable by almost everyone, yet I suspect is still a good book for doctors whose speciality does not include the liver.Explanations of treatments currently available, herbs and what to expect as a Hep C patient. An easy read. I read it in an evening. And a great reference book.

First off the title is scary as hell. Second the book doesnt go deep in to help a person deal with hepatitis C. There's a small section on diet and that's all. Read more
