About the Author
John Sinkankas (Bs. Ed., William Paterson College of New Jersey; Ph.D. Honoris Causa) is a retired U.S. Navy captain. He is a Fellow of the Mineralogical Society of America and is the first recipient of the Carnegie Mineralogical Award (1988) of the Carnegie Natural History Museum, Pittsburgh. He has written seven books on gems and related subjects; his first work, "Gem Cutting", now in its third edition, was chosen by the USSR as an instruction manual and published in Moscow in a Russian translation in 1989.
