Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal
Grade 3-6-- An attractive collection of over 50 tricks. Clear, easy directions make this an excellent choice for beginning magicians. The instructions are well marked, with each step corresponding to a numbered illustration. This makes each action simple to follow and understand. The cartoon pictures are fun and attractive, but more importantly they accurately show the procedures required. Chapters are divided by type of activity, including "playing cards," "magic numbers," and "paper puzzlers." The selections themselves are not elaborate, but most are suitably impressive and can be mastered fairly easily. Most materials required are readily available; some preparation of props is necessary. Closing chapters offer suggestions for costumes and party ideas. With the emphasis on the physical logistics of each trick, little attention is paid to sleight-of-hand techniques. Misdirection and patter are mentioned briefly in the introductory chapter, but rarely within the descriptions of the tricks. Despite these minor flaws, this book will be a popular addition to the magic shelves, with fun tricks that kids can learn and perform successfully on their own. --Steven Engelfried, Alameda County Library, CA

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Magic, December 27, 2000
The Magic Handbook is a bit short on how to present magic, but the effects presented are very good. Many principles used by professional magicians are provided here, and all can be made fairly simply with easy to find materials. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of intresting magic tricks that are fun to do., April 15, 1997
By A Customer
This book is very inspiring, and has helped me do a lot of magic tricks. I use a lot of it's tricks when I preform, and no one has ever figured them out. It is an excellent book and I think that all kids who want to be magicians will love it. It is also good for parents who want to impress their kids, but don't know how to. All in all, I think this is an A+ book
