Ages 2-7. As golden retriever Boomer awaits his customary after-breakfast walk, he comes to realize that nothing about the day is customary. Instead, confusion and chaos are everywhere. All of his household's belongings are being packed into boxes, hauled out of the house by strangers, and loaded onto a truck. Boomer himself is eventually crammed into the family van for a long and cramped ride, then finally deposited before a foreign, empty house. Elaborating on the turmoil of Boomer's day, Whyte's delightful watercolors expressively reflect the dog's emotions: there is indescribable frustration on Boomer's face when, flattened to the floor, he searches in vain under a bed for his favorite ball, and his bewilderment is evident as he gazes at the clutter surrounding the packers at work. Review

The story is about a day in the life of Boomer, an eight-year-old golden retriever. Boomer wakes one morning to find something unusual is going on. Boomer's family are rushing about, strangers are packing all the things in the house into boxes, and he can't find his favourite toy anywhere. Boomer's family are moving house. This book could be useful to read to children prior to moving house, to alleviate nay anxieties they may have. I had to read this story four times in the first sitting to my three year. Old, which was a welcome change from "Thomas the Tank Engine Stories". I enjoyed this book and would recommend it. -- Kiwi Parent

This is a great book to read to kids. It has a great story, wonderful pictures with clarity for a 1 yr old, yet enough detail that my 3 yr old still loves it every time. If you like dogs, you'll love this, and if you are going through a move, this book is a must for young kids.

Although we were not moving very far, I wanted to prepare my 3 year old with a book to which she could relate. Because we are animal lovers with a dog like Boomer, this book helped my child understand what was going on in her life. The book is told through a narrator in the dog's point of view. The illustrations are also at "dog-eye level." I looked at other books, but this one met my needs the most, because it tells the tale in a vantage point similar to my child's. My daughter is too young to really resist moving, but she didnt' "get" the idea that everything she owned would be coming with us and that the new house would be just as good if not better than the old. Boomer tells the story from a confused beginning to a happy ending once he discovers his new house has wonderful things for him to do and new friends to make. I highly recommend this book to help your little one's moving day transition.

This is a wonderful book for those who love dogs and children. The illustrations are clear and detailed showing many household items. My 1 year old son has this book with him at EVERY meal, and spends several minutes on each page, identifying each item. It is a wonderful learning tool.
