Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal
YA-Insects comprise two-thirds of all the animal species on Earth. There are 200 million of them for every person, and we deal with these creatures on a daily basis. Blum takes readers into their world. Reminiscent of the handheld viewers of the 1920s, this book has a built-in stereoscope attached to the cover. In order to capture the macro images on the 44 3-D plates, the author built his own cameras. The result is absolutely breathtaking. Insects from the common housefly to exotic butterflies in full regalia will have readers wishing for more photos. Unlike the 3-D books with the blue-and-red glasses, these images truly jump off the page. The depth of field achieved is remarkable. The book is a wonderful introduction not only to the field of entomology, but also to photography. Each plate is accompanied by a brief annotation. A wonderful addition to any YA collection and a great aid in classrooms.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is an amazing book for all ages!, January 16, 1999
By A Customer
I think that Mark Blum's, Bugs in 3-D is a wonderful book. The book comes with a sturdy built in viewer in the front of the book that flips out. Then the pictures can be viewed by simply looking through the viewer and turning the pages. There are 44 different 3-D stereo images to see. The beautiful ansd full color high quality pictures make me feel like the insects are actually in front of me (at least it looks that way). This book was just as good as Mark Blum's previous book, "Beneath the Sea in 3-D" which also presented astounding 3-D pictures that anyone can enjoy. Children no doubt would enjoy this book, but because of the informative text and rich high quality pictures this beautiful book should also be marketed for adults. I am in college and this book appeals to me. No one who enjoys beautiful nature pictures should miss this book (especially if you are a science lover).

(REAL NAME)
Mark Blum is clearly a very talented and skillful nature photographer! His books, including BUGS IN 3-D, are all FABULOUS! I can't recommend this book highly enough!

In BUGS IN 3-D, you will be shrunk to the size of a grasshopper, taken off to exotic forests, and introduced face-to-face to some really amazing insects! It is just like entering their world! INCREDIBLE!

The photography is exquisite!
The 3-D stereo effect is remarkable!
The subject is fascinating!
The price is bargain!
There are NO negatives about this book!
Children, parents, science students, naturalists; I can't think of anybody who won't love this book!

BUY IT!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Fab - My four-year-old loves this book!, January 11, 1999
By "sarah@cybertropic.com" (San Mateo, Ca USA) - See all my reviews
The pictures in this book make it a great attention getter for younger children that are interested in living things. I let my daughter look at one of the bugs, then I read the accompaning text. She is just absolutely fascinated with bugs!
