Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Worthington, author of The Cuisine of California, also believes in informal entertaining, particularly in the summer. Many of her recipes involve little or no cooking; she favors barbecues and picnics, grilled and made-ahead foods. Her simple but often elegant recipes are varied and appealingly fresh, influenced by both California/Southwest cooking and the Mediterranean "cuisine of the sun." Recommended. JS

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Summer CookBook!, May 5, 2000
This book is full of delicious and appealing receipes for summer. It's wondefully put together, and so easy to follow. The receipes are easy enough that anyone (even those with little experience) could create wonderful and tastey meals. The photography is beautiful and it's enjoyably constructed. Highlights are the "Cold Lobster Salad" and the "Summer Squash Gratin" ...but, there are so many more that I can't wait to try. I recommend it to any cook out there!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best cookbook I own/A great gift, July 13, 2000
By A Customer
Finally this cookbook has been re-released. I own many, many cookbooks and this is by far my all time favorite. You can use these recipies as a first time try on your guests. No worries.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fabulous cookbook., April 19, 2004
I adore this cookbook. It's for people who love to cook and want to recombine fresh ingredients in new and interesting ways. It has everything from intriguing salads (like the green bean salad with jicama, yellow peppers, and tomato) to summer soups (like the chilled avocado soup with tomato-cucumber salsa) to entrees (like the spinach pesto-marinated chicken). If you like cooking with fresh foods, this is the cookbook for you.
