About the Author

For well over a half century, Andre Norton has been one of the most popular science fiction and fantasy authors in the world. Since her first SF novels were published in the 1940s, her adventure SF has enthralled readers young and old. With series such as Time Traders, Solar Queen, Forerunner, Beast Master, Crosstime, and Janus, as well as many stand-alone novels, her tales of action and adventure throughout the galaxy have drawn countless readers to science fiction.

Her fantasy, including the best-selling Witch World series, her "Magic" series, and many other unrelated novels, has been popular with readers for decades. Lauded as a Grand Master by the Science Fiction Writers of America, she is the recipient of a Life Achievement Award from the World Fantasy Convention. Not only have her books been enormously popular; she also has inspired several generations of SF and fantasy writers, especially many talented women writers who have followed in her footsteps. In the past two decades she has worked with other writers on a number of novels. Most notable among these are collaborations with Mercedes Lackey, the Halfblood Chronicles, as well as collaborations with A.C. Crispin (in the Witch World series) and Sherwood Smith (in the Time Traders and Solar Queen series). An Ohio native, Ms. Norton lived for a number of years in Winter Park, Florida, and now makes her home in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, where she continues to write, and presides over High Hallack, a writers' resource and retreat.

4.0 out of 5 stars interesting sequel, February 28, 2005
This review is from: Flight in Yiktor (Hardcover)
"Flight in Yiktor" is the third in the Moon Singer series, coming after "Moon of Three Rings" and "Exiles of the Stars." The fourth book is "Dare to Go A-Hunting." This series takes place in Norton's Forerunner universe. (Click on my name to see the list.)

The first two books in the series are excellent, told from the point of view of a spaceman named Krip and an alien named Maelen. "Flight in Yiktor" continues their story, but it's told from the perspective of a new character, Farree, a deformed alien who can't remember how he ended up in a slum on a planet that is not his home. Krip and Maelen rescue Farree and take him aboard their starship as they return to Maelen's home planet, Yiktor, with villains in hot pursuit.

This book was not quite as strong as the first two, but I recommend it, because it's an exciting adventure that tells us quite a bit more about Krip, Maelen, and the Forerunner mystery that serves as a backdrop to many of Norton's stories. Farree is an appealing character, although perhaps not as interesting as Krip and Maelen. Farree's story concludes in "Dare to Go A-Hunting."

5.0 out of 5 stars great follow up!, January 19, 2002
By Krys Phoenix (Lexington, KY United States) - See all my reviews
Moon of Three Rings was great. But Flight in Yiktor took it futher! If you read one, you MUST read the other. The Thassa of Yiktor are, in my opinion, alive today on Earth. They're the Witches of today. Moon Singers, and Shamans...not a race apart, but people with special insight into the hearts of man/woman. Andre Norton is one of the great SF/Fantasy writers of all time. "Flight in Yiktor", proves it once again! (Notice I didn't talk about the character "Farree". You read "Flight in Yiktor" and you'll know what I'm talking about! Great book!

2.0 out of 5 stars Am I Missing Something Here?, September 26, 2003
By "starlight-rose" (her own little world) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Flight in Yiktor (Hardcover)
Maybe it's because I haven't read Moon of Three Rings, but this book didn't appeal to me at all. This is the first Andre Norton book I ever read, and I wasn't very impressed. It all focuses on the main character's low self esteem. It's boring. It reminds me of Moon Called, just not as bad. The characters are great, and so are the descriptions. But the dialogue is too formal, and the plot is dull.

While this doesn't hold me as much as some of her others have, it is still a very good book. Ms. Norton is one of the best authors in the genre and this book is typical of her... Read more
