When it comes to money, many personal finance gurus know their stuff. The problems start when they try to get you to know your stuff. Nancy Lloyd is a smart and entertaining exception. In Simple Money Solutions, Lloyd offers specific, detailed advice in a conversational, easy-to-digest style. The result is a book of tips that will inspire readers to put workable ideas into practice and reap the financial rewards.

Having earned economics degrees from Princeton and Cornell, Lloyd spent a number of years working for the Federal Reserve Board as an expert on consumer credit and banking issues, and then for IBM in finance, marketing, and strategic planning. Her obvious knack for translating the complexities of managing personal finances into simple, workable solutions for the average person has since propelled Lloyd into print and radio journalism. Simple Money Solutions is a how-to book on money management, using real-life tales of financial woe to present solid, effective advice. For readers with perpetual credit card debt and an ongoing battle with different "low-interest" credit card companies, the chapter "Take Charge of Your Credit" will be particularly useful. Her tips are sometimes repeated in numerous different sections, but good advice is usually worth repeating. Moreover, Lloyd does not profess that her readers will be able to solve all their money problems on their own; in the chapter "Boost Your Money IQ," she provides the reader with a wealth of information on when to consider hiring a financial planner, where to look for one, and how to verify the impartiality of their advice. I bought this book for my daughter who just got her MBA. While the pay gap between men and women is reportedly narrowing, most women still don't know how to make the most of the money we have. That's too bad since we're likely to be on our own financially for at least several years in our lives (more women are not ever getting married or their marriages are ending due to divorce or death of a husband). This book showed me what my daughter and I need to know about money through the various milestones in our lives. This book does for money what "PLAY LIKE A MAN, WIN LIKE A WOMAN," by Gail Evans does for work-life gameplaying. Since they're not teaching any of this in college, you should buy copies of both books for your daughters and keep a copy of each for yourself.

Nancy Lloyd gave me just the motivation and solid advice I needed. She showed what to do to shape up my finances, when to do it to get the best results and she gave me the confidence to tackle it. Best of all, I'm succeeding! I wish I'd had this book years ago.

I'm a big fan of Oprah and applaud her goal of encouraging reading. Most of her books are great and life changing. If you truly want to take charge of your finances, Nancy Lloyd's book, "Simple Money Solution" will work for you. It worked for me and my friends because it is, just as its name implies, simple. By that I mean that it clearly and simply explains how to get a handle on your money, how to put an end to spending on autopilot and how to replace self-defeating money habits with better ones. It doesn't take "courage" to be rich. It just takes a savvy book and an open mind. This book did something for me, my sisters, my mother and my friends that other money books did not -- Simple Money Solutions worked!
