English Translation:
This book studies hagiographic comedias, or plays of saints, which were popular during Spain's Golden Age. It draws on variety of sources such as church history, philosophy, hagiography, dramatic theory and existing studies of the Golden Age authors and plays. The book analyzes hagiographic plays as a subgenre with its own characteristics and conventions, develops a typology of saints and categorizes the plays according to the typology. It is also the first comparative study of Lope, Tirso and Calderon's comedias de santos.
