From School Library Journal
Grade 5-9-The "master of suspense" left a legacy of many films, eight of which are summarized here-The 39 Steps, The Lady Vanishes, Shadow of a Doubt, Strangers on a Train, Vertigo, North by Northwest, Psycho, and The Birds. An introduction provides a scant biographical sketch of Hitchcock. The chapters that follow contain descriptions of the films, as well as anecdotes and appealing photographs, most of which are in black and white. Unfortunately, the writing is not crisp, and turns these Hitchcock thrillers into bland tales. Classics such as Rear Window, Notorious, and The Man Who Knew Too Much are simply mentioned in passing, and a complete listing of all of the director's movies is not provided. A weak series entry.

From Booklist
Gr. 7-10. This concise, simply written book provides readers interested in horror movies with an analysis of eight Hitchcock films, among them,
The 39 Steps,
North by Northwest,
Psycho, and
The Birds. Arginteanu has done such a nice job of interpreting each film's theme and symbols that it makes little difference whether the reader has actually seen the movies discussed. Color and black-and-white photographs add visual interest, and a short bibliography is appended. A worthwhile addition, with a jacket certain to entice readers.
