Grade 4-6 The photos in this book are only fair, with most of those in black-and-white looking faded. The color photographs are good, with the best of them on the cover. The text offers a sketchy overview of Israel's history, government, people, land, and economy. Writing is dry, factual, and encyclopedia-like. The maps and charts are clear and informative. Israel (Time-Life, 1986) and Jones' Israel (Childrens, 1986) are better choices. Ruth Shire, Mount Vernon Public Lib., N.Y.
