Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal
Grade 1-3-- Gibbons' easily identifiable artistic style works well with her explanations of sometimes misunderstood weather-related terms. Drawings are appealing, attractively arranged, and closely matched to the textual information. Temperature, air pressure, moisture, and wind are broadly defined and illustrated. Each of the four areas is then broken down further: moisture is illustrated as rain, drizzle, hail, snow, etc. The term describing each type of weather phenomenon is highly visible in large type and is contained in a dialogue balloon that stands out from the accompanying illustration. One page of curious weather facts concludes the book. An attractive introduction for weather units in the primary grades, along with Gibbon's Weather Forecasting (Four Winds, 1987). --Carolyn S. Brodie, Kent State University, OH

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for young students learning about weather., February 27, 1999
By A Customer
I am a student teahcer. When I had to plan a unit for my kindergarteners about weather, I did not know how to teach it on their level. This book really helped me to come up with the right words to help the students understand what I was trying to get across to them. GREAT BOOK!!! I checked it out from the library at the school I am working at; however, I WILL be getting my own personal copy. Thank you Gail!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the BEST books about weather for the elementary set, December 7, 2006

(REAL NAME)
I checked out a gob of weather books when teaching my first-graders. This one was by far the best. It explained the weather in a simple, easy manner with wonderful illustrations. But it was not a 'baby' book. The author covered a wide variety of weather topics in language that engaged and taught. In a few short, clear sentences we were able to learn how to identify clouds or the types of wind and rain storms. I plan on purchasing this book since it will be used over and over for reference and for just plain fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great way to explain the weather!, January 7, 2008
Gail Gibbons has the best books for kids. I can see why educators use this books in the classroom. The concepts are broken down into easily understandable parts; great for little kids!
