Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Containing interviews with 30 men who cared for partners with AIDS, and who all - from both a humanist and religious perspective - recognize that in the act of caring and in the special dynamic that being gay men in a partnership has, this book discusses a deep spiritual component. While several of the interviewees rejected organized religion in their coming out and living as gay men, all suggest that their lives have been deepened through two components of all faiths - the act of service and unconditional love.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is a convincing argument for gay spirituality., March 24, 1999
By indsch19@idt.net (Little Rock, Arkansas) - See all my reviews
Richard Hardy's LOVING MEN, GAY PARTNERS, SPIRITUALITY, AND AIDS is a thoroughly convincing argument for the strength of gay spirituality. Based on extensive interviews with gay men caring for partners who are HIV+, the book demonstrates that gay relationships can foster a deep spirituality marked by love, commitment, and self-sacrifice. In a culture in which churches often deny that such spirituality exists in gay relationships, the book's message is one that needs to be heard. Hardy (who has himself provided long-term care for a partner who died of AIDS) concludes that the spirituality fostered by many gay relationships is one that deserves attention in mainstream churches, since it has the hallmarks of holiness, as defined in traditional understandings of spirituality.
