Biblically practical, January 31, 2007
This book not only presents the Biblical basis for understanding what marriage is and how to enter into it; it also provides the necessary practical medical information engaged couples need to experience a truly passionate and intimate honeymoon. Graphic but never lurid or gratuitous, this book will be a welcome honeymoon companion for many new couples. It covers everything from travel tips, to birth control, to what to do to prevent and/or treat urinary tract infections, all against the backdrop of a thoughtful Biblical discussion of God's plan for your marriage and how to implement it. Highly recommended!

What makes up the honeymoon of your dreams?, February 23, 2007
Walt Larimore is "one of America's best-known family physicians" and Susan Crockett is a "nationally recognized OB/GYN." Having counseled hundreds of couples preparing to be married, they've noticed that often these couples plan a wedding without planning for the 'after.' As Larimore and Crockett explain,"Our goal in writing this book is to introduce you to the divine design for marriage...In essence we want your honeymoon to be the launch pad for...a honeymoon that lasts a lifetime."
A helpful resource for every engaged couple, "Honeymoon" contains tips and advice about the preparation steps--with appendices that include a calendar to assist with medical planning, travel arrangements, and spiritual growth. Also included is a useful list of what to pack for a honeymoon, including appropriate medical documentation if the couple will be traveling in other countries.
"Remember the focus should not be on how exotic the destination is, how extravagant the vacation package...the focus should be on you as a couple, getting started on the right foot." Through exhaustive surveys and numerous counseling sessions, the authors provide real-life stories of those who have been there--planning weddings and honeymoons--and how they have learned from their experiences, both positive and negative. There are special 'bride only' and 'groom only' chapters that aim at relieving anxieties before the wedding night, from each perspective.
The authors stress the benefit of a pre-marriage relationship assessment, and also recommend finding a mentor-couple to learn from. Larimore and Crockett refer to this idea as "stay-married insurance."
Written with humor, experience, and medical expertise, this is an easy-to-read and valuable resource. I would recommend this book for all couples preparing for their wedding, to encourage them to prepare for "happily ever after." A great tool for pastors and counselors, this book also makes a perfect bridal shower gift.
Armchair Interviews says: Unique look at the honeymoon, and beyond.

Helps with some of the gaps, February 10, 2008
I'm getting married next month, and I've never been married before (and a virgin), and what I liked about this book is that it offers specific advice on having a good honeymoon experience, including creating a "Honeymoon Kit" of items that if the absolute worst happens, you'll be prepared. There are a lot of medical concerns related to having a good honeymoon, things that could impact the psychological aspects of intimacy later in your marriage, that are good to try to avoid. This book helps to do just that, and although some of its advice on the biblical aspects of sex you can get in other books, such as "Intended for Pleasure," I recommend this book to focus on practical things you can do to prepare for the wedding night and make it a success.
They also stress the idea of having a honeymoon that is not stressful - that the goal should be sexual intimacy (not necessarily sex - but being sensual with each other, building to sex) and that this is better done somewhere relaxing, and possibly closer to home than many people attempt. I had always thought this and have planned a honeymoon at an extremely nice hotel near my hometown, but it was reassuring to read a book that also advocated this position.
