Kemp (special collections, Univ. of South Florida Lib., Tampa) presents a comprehensive bibliography of genealogies, handbooks, and source materials published in 1995. Though the bulk of the citations are likely to be available from online catalogs through the Internet, Kemp has ferreted out and organized them. This first volume in a planned annual series is divided into three main sections: family histories, arranged by family name; guides and handbooks for the United States and foreign countries, grouped by country or topic; and genealogical sources by state, organized by county and city. This valuable core reference tool for genealogy and local history research builds on the traditions of P. William Filby's American and British Genealogy and Heraldry (1983), often called "the Bible" by genealogists. Two critical additions for the 1996 annual would be an index and a listing of the author's address for the many self-published works in this field. Nonetheless, the book is well worth the price for genealogy reference collections.?Judith P. Reid, Library of Congress

From Booklist
This valuable new bibliography is planned as an annual, listing works published within the specified year. Each entry gives full bibliographical detail, except for the address of the publisher. In many cases, the author is the publisher. The work is divided into three parts, the largest being Family Histories, which makes up about two-thirds of the book. This is followed by a brief section by broad topics, such as cemeteries, Huguenots, land records, Mormons, newspapers, or societies. The final section, about 125 pages, is entitled Genealogical Sources by State; within each state, the breakdown is by county.
The first volume of the fifth edition of Genealogical & Local History Books in Print lists more than 4,600 family histories that are currently available from publishers. Although there is undoubtedly some overlap with that work, The Genealogy Annual will in time prove to be a most valuable genealogical resource for worldwide information. Specialized genealogical libraries should certainly purchase this and all future editions.
